American online retail and distribution giant Amazon have selected Malaga in the south of Spain as the preferred location for a new logistics centre. Aiming to provide faster delivery services to the coast and neighbouring regions, the plot of land is set to be at least 10,000 square metres according to El Sur.<\/p>\n
The company are looking at plots in Malaga, Seville and Ja\u00e9n but it is understood that Malaga is the preferred location given the proximity to major towns on the Costa del Sol, as well as the Guadalhorce valley area.<\/p>\n
They are actively looking in Malaga,“ said Jos\u00e9 F\u00e9lix P\u00e9rez-Pe\u00f1a, director at the Aguirre Newman consultancy firm in Malaga. They need to be close to the biggest towns and cities so that they deliver within 24 hours – a major challenge in the world of logistics.“<\/p>\n
Amazon recently built a 10,000 square metre logistics centre in Seville that employs 80 people. One issue they are currently facing is the lack of earmarked land available for industrial use on the Costa del Sol.
