The recent news that the so called „sun tax“ is to be dropped is excellent news to anyone looking to invest in a holiday home or permanent residence here in Spain and at the same time do their part in looking after our environment. This new ruling means that there will be no taxes payable for the generation of surplus electricity via rooftop solar panels.<\/p>\n
Since 1992 rooftop photovoltaic systems became available for residential use and was exceptionally successful for commercial use. Being connected to a national power grid offers financial benefits for the consumer as it is very common that any excess electricity generated outside of residential usage to be subject to a payback scheme making the owners of solar panels economically reimbursed for the energy they produce but do not use.<\/p>\n
